The Leicester Street Training and Wellness Centre in Carlton, Melbourne, incorporated AURE Glazing units into the façade of the new centre, providing renewable energy generation while maintaining the appearance and functionality of conventional glazing.

The project was designed by Hayball and delivered by Kapitol Group for the Leicester Street Training and Wellness Centre. From the outset, sustainability was a key consideration, with the building targeting a 5-Star Green Star rating and Gold WELL certification. Augenium’s solar glazing formed part of the project’s broader approach to reducing the environmental impact of the built environment.

One of our core company values is to ‘do no harm’, and engaging with suppliers like Augenium means we can build more sustainable buildings that will minimise their environmental impact for decades to come.

Tom Stephens, Project Manager, Kapitol Group

Covering approximately 16 m², the installation demonstrates how transparent photovoltaic technology can be integrated directly into a building façade. Rather than treating solar generation as an additional system, the project incorporates energy generation into the building envelope itself, allowing the glazing to serve both an architectural and energy-generating function.

The installation delivers annual carbon savings of approximately 94.8 Kg CO₂-e, contributing to the centre’s sustainability objectives while demonstrating the practical application of BIPV in an Australian commercial building.

For Augenium, Leicester Street Training and Wellness Centre demonstrates the technology in a real-world façade application. This project provides a tangible example of how AURE Glazing can be specified from the early design stage and integrated into contemporary architecture without compromising the building’s design intent.
