The collaboration with Australian modular home manufacturer Prefabulous centres on the company’s FabZero prototype, where multiple Augenium solar technologies have been integrated into a single modular dwelling.

The project incorporates AURE Glazing, AURE Cladding and AURE x Helios Trafficable Steel Back Solar Panels across approximately 75 m², with a combined system size of 16.52 kW. By integrating energy generation into the building envelope, the project explores how traditionally passive architectural surfaces can contribute to a home’s energy performance.

The trial forms part of Prefabulous’ broader focus on delivering sustainable modular homes without compromising design, construction efficiency or ease of installation. Augenium’s products were selected to demonstrate how solar generation can be incorporated across glazing, façade and roof applications within a prefabricated building.

Our customers are looking for sustainable housing solutions that look great. This trial is part of our broader effort to provide energy-efficient, eco-friendly housing and is based on extensive research work conducted over the last few years with the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre and University of Wollongong.

Gavin King, Founder and Managing Director, Prefabulous

A key aspect of the project is the use of standard-sized AURE solar products, demonstrating the potential for BIPV to be incorporated into modular construction without requiring extensive project-specific redesign. This approach can help streamline integration while maintaining the architectural flexibility expected of contemporary modular housing.

For Augenium, the Prefabulous project provides a valuable demonstration of how its technology can extend beyond commercial and institutional buildings into the residential and modular housing sector. It also highlights the versatility of Augenium’s product portfolio, with AURE Glazing, AURE Cladding and AURE x Helios roof panels working together as an integrated energy-generating building envelope.
