The Aqua Ignis Hot Springs project in Sendai City, Japan, showcases an innovative application of AURE Glazing working agricultural environment. As part of the wider health, wellness and tourism development, a strawberry greenhouse was fitted with AURE Glazing, integrating renewable energy generation directly into the greenhouse structure.
Located in the Fujitsuka area of Wakabayashi-ku, the Aqua Ignis development is centred around a natural sodium chloride and bicarbonate hot spring and was designed to become a destination combining tourism, wellness and sustainable development. The strawberry greenhouse forms part of this experience, allowing visitors to see Augenium’s technology in operation while enjoying the surrounding attraction.
Approximately 339 m² of AURE Glazing was installed across the greenhouse. The system is expected to generate approximately 8,573 kWh of renewable electricity each year.
Tomita Technologies is very pleased to have been able to specify the AURE product for use in this high-profile health focused tourism project at Sendai. The project is unique in its ambitions and the use of Augenium in the strawberry greenhouse roof will add to its distinctiveness and bolster its eco credentials.
We are very much looking forward to working with Augenium on delivery of this, our first project together.Hiraaki Tomita, President, Tomita Technologies Ltd.
The project was delivered through Tomita Technologies Ltd, Augenium’s licensed Japanese distributor for greenhouse and protected-cropping applications. This project provided an opportunity to demonstrate Augenium’s technology within Japan’s agricultural sector.
For Augenium, Aqua Ignis demonstrates the versatility of its AURE Glazing beyond conventional building façades and windows. By combining transparency and renewable energy generation, the technology can be incorporated into specialised environments such as greenhouses while supporting broader sustainability objectives.
